The Portuguese border control authorities SEF presented, at the international airport of Faro, the proof of concept for the world’s first fully automated electronic border control gate integrated with an innovative live biometric verification unit. Vision Box exhibits biometric and digital CCTV technologies at Segurex’07, Lisbon, 14th – 17th de March de 2007. On Wednesday 14 February, the Portuguese Citizen Card (cartão de cidadão) project was officially launched on the island of Faial, one of the Azores Islands, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Portugal.
This single and multifunctional Citizen ID Card (integrating public services from Social Security, Tax, Justice, Electoral Database, and Health) will also integrate biometric data allowing match-on-card verification.
Vision-Box is responsible for the delivery of the VBePass – the equipment that is used as a platform for the production of the citizen card, distributed all over the country, to be used by all Portuguese citizens.
