Today, 16th of December 2007, the installation of smartgates in Funchal (Madeira), for checking electronic passports was launched.
After the successful installation at Faro and Lisbon’s Airports, Funchal Airport is now also equipped with our automatic passport control system.
The “VBeGate” was developed by Vision-Box and Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), and integrated in the “Electronic Border Control System” – a modernized border control program using cutting edge technology working alongside biometric passports on entry and exit checkpoints at Lisbon airport border crossings.
The Border System to Control Electronic Passports is now fully operational in Lisbon, Faro and Funchal Airports. In the near future it will be installed in the Airports of Porto, Ponta Delgada and Angra do HeroÃsmo.
The commercial complex VALECENTER, located in Venice (Italy), has Vision-Box’s “CCTV and People/Vehicle Counting solutions”, since 16th December 2007.
On 13th of December 2007, Vision-Box became a member of AFCEA. On the photo, Dr Bento Correia (Vision-Box) receives the membership certificate from Dr Carlos R. Rodolfo, CAlm (AFCEA President).
Portugal is one of the eight countries that participates in BIODEV project, a pilot-project that allows the control of passengers with visas, through digital prints, enforcing borders security and preventing illegal immigration.
BIODEV project integrates Vision-Box’s biometric enrollment stations, KPEP, already installed in all Consul Posts, with biometric control of visas.
Besides Portugal, other countries participate in BIODEV project: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Luxemburg and United Kingdom.
Portugal initiated today, at Lisbon Airport, biometric control of visas based on digital prints, for foreign citizens with visas from the Portuguese Consul Post at Dakar.
After the successful installation at Faro’s Airport, Lisbon International Airport is now also equipped with our automatic passport control system.
This is the first system worldwide to allow an automatic control of passengers who hold electronic passports, thereby removing the need for human action.
This innovating system will permit a highly rationalized management and a significant boost to the efficiency of the means for border control. By reducing the process of border crossing to an average of less than 20 seconds it will speed up significantly the movement of passengers at border control.
