Vision-Box on TIME Magazine

Vision-Box was requested to be part of the last issue of TIME Magazine (UK & Ireland Edition). The issue is already on the stands and contains a brochure about Portugal entitled “Portugal, a nation of innovation”. Vision-Box’s President & CEO, Mr. Bento Correia highlighted Vision-Box’s biggest achievements on the automatic border control international market, namely the presence of the e-gates in over 20 airports worldwide, which leads the company to be recognized as the leader in this market. Future perspectives are really positive considering the company entered the market when it was still undeveloped, and now that it’s maturing, growing and requesting specialized technologies, opportunities are multiplying.

Vision-Box was on the cover of the last issue of Exame Magazine, one of the most important business magazines in Portugal. The subject of the article was “How Portuguese technologies innovate and win”, and the President & CEO Mr. Bento Correia, and the Vice-President Mr. Miguel Leitmann were interviewed to explain how Vision-Box is still succeeding during this economic downfall.
Vision-Box was chosen for this article also due to its recent growth and international expansion. The company holds currently the leader title in automatic border control market, with over 200 systems deployed worldwide. In the article, Vision-Box’s history since the start of the company is described, as well as middle and long term plans for the future, where USA have been considered.

Vision-Box New Product – Portable Enrolment and Verification Unit

Vision-Box created an all-in-one portable unit that collects biometric enrolment data, and which also performs ID checks by connecting with local or centralized databases. The versatility and size of this new system are the key drivers for its multiple applications: Citizen enrolment in large territories with dispersed populations, enhanced security checks at any location (field clearance, road blocks, prison inspections, work and residence permit follow-ups) or even contingent border controls, and many others.
It has already been deployed in South Africa for Portuguese passport issuance during the 2010 World Cup. It comprises all the features included in the acknowledged vb E-Pass kiosk, which is used in more than 150 countries and has gathered biometric information from more than 4 million citizens, with an unbeatable track record.

Vision-Box chosen within Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2010

Each year companies innovate, overcome obstacles and systematically defy the odds. The Technology Fast 500 EMEA programme recognizes these efforts in its annual ranking of the 500 fastest-growing technology companies across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The programme is based on percentage revenue growth over five years and recognizes all areas of technology and includes both public and private companies.

Vision-Box presenting at Frontex Event

Last 4th November in Helsinki, Vision-Box presented at the Frontex 4th Workshop on Automated Border Crossing Systems based of Facial Recognition and Electronic Passports. Frontex is the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Members States of the EU, and this event was focused in the new developments in the ABC gates and at the example of the Helsinki airport and Vaalimaa land border gates. Vision-box presence was imperative because we have deployed ABC gates both at the Helsinki-Vanta Airport and Vaalimaa land border. Vision-Box Vice-President, Mr. Miguel Leitmann was therefore invited to present at this reference event to give important input, from one of the most innovative companies in this market.

Vision-Box Automatic Border Control System at the European Commission

An exemplar of the ABC gate from Vision-Box will be deployed at the European Commission Joint Research Centre to contribute to the study of automatic border control standards.
Our e-gate was the first system worldwide to provide passengers with an automatic border control process based on biometric facial matching. It’s an effective and efficient system that revolutionized the way passengers are controlled at borders. Vision-Box gates have already been deployed in several countries, including UK (9 airports).
The JRC is the scientific and technical arm of the European Commission and it is its purpose to provide the scientific advice and technical know-how to support a wide range of EU policies. This is obviously a great honor for Vision-Box to take part in such an important project.

Vision-Box at Milipol Qatar 2010

Milipol Qatar 2010 occurred from the 25th to the 27th October at Doha Exhibition Centre, and over 200 exhibitors from 33 countries and around 5000 visitors were present at the event.

This exhibition is first and foremost an “institutional” event, as MILIPOL QATAR is organized by the Qatar Ministry of Interior, with the active participation of the governmental institutions concerned: MOI – Public Relations; MOI – IT Department; Coast Guard and Border Department; Qatar Internal Security Force and Calibration Centre of Qatar Armed Forces.

Over 5000 visitors attended this year’s exhibition, all professionals of State security, defense, or responsible for industrial and sensitive sites. They were Ministers, high-ranking officials from Ministries of Interior and of Defense, Ambassadors, CEOs, consultants…

Some of the areas focused on this event were transport security, port and airport security, border control and security of public places. These are fields in which Vision-Box has distinctive capabilities with products in biometrics such as the Automatic Border Control Gate and the enrolment kiosk for biometric data collection and also intelligent CCTV systems with face recognition, people counting, LPR License Plate recognition, people tracking, tailgating, detection of abandoned objects, amongst other specific functions.

Vision-Box at Biometrics 2010 – The new mobile ABC Gate

The Biometrics Exhibition and Conference 2010 is an event focused in the Biometrics field, and this year’s topics were amongst others: Biometric citizen identification issues, biometrics at the border, biometric enrolment – perfect image acquisition, adverse locations and self-enrolment, automated border control, etc.

This is one of the most important and focused exhibitions for Vision-Box’s biometric area, and we took the opportunity to show for the first time our new mobile automatic border control e-gates and our enrolment kiosk for biometric data capture. The mobile ABC gate is another worldwide innovation from Vision-Box and received lots of attention during the exhibition.

Vision-Box exhibited at Security Essen

Security Essen took place in the past 5th – 8th October and gathered over 1000 exhibitors from 40 countries. The focus was made upon general security areas, such as CCTV, fire alarms, access controls, etc. The exhibition also received the visit of Thomas Kutschaty, Minister of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia.

This is one of the most important events to get information about new developments in the security industry. Vision-Box’s presence was therefore necessary, because we have developed important innovative products in the biometrics and intelligent video analytics field, such as the Automatic Border Control Gate and the enrolment kiosk for biometric data collection. Our focus on this event was our intelligent CCTV system, with face recognition, people counting, LPR License Plate recognition, people tracking, tailgating, detection of abandoned objects, amongst other specific capabilities.
