The Vision-Box mobile unit M-PEP presented by SEF and developed for the biometric live enrollment for eID was awarded the Innovation Prize by Segurex 2007, Lisbon.
In this year’s Segurex (Exhibition for Protection and Security) the Portuguese Aliens and Borders Service and Vision-Box, has candidate for and been awarded the Prize for Innovation, for the M-PEP, which is a Mobile Unit for Issuing Electronic Passports.
The M-PEP is a Mobile Unit for Collecting Biometric Data whichis then introduced into the Information System of the Portuguese Electronic Passport and has been used in first instance by the Portuguese First-lady Dr. Maria Cavaco Silva.
This device was especially conceived to collect the biometric data (face image, finger prints and electronic signature), for the emission of a Portuguese Electronic Passport of those citizens that are unable to go to a Passport Office. The mobile kiosk for collecting biometric data M-PEP contains all the available functions contained in the Kiosk K-PEP, which is already in use for obtaining biometric data for the Portuguese Electronic Passport and Citizen’s Card. The M-PEP has the shape of a briefcase in silver colour which when opened allows access to an integrated system for collecting biometric data – camera, finger print reading device, signing pad, portable CPU.
