Today, 16th of December 2007,  the installation of smartgates in Funchal (Madeira), for checking electronic passports was launched.

After the successful installation at Faro and Lisbon’s Airports, Funchal Airport is now also equipped with our automatic passport control system.
The “VBeGate” was developed by Vision-Box and Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), and integrated in the “Electronic Border Control System” – a modernized border control program using cutting edge technology working alongside biometric passports on entry and exit checkpoints at Lisbon airport border crossings.

The Border System to Control Electronic Passports is now fully operational in Lisbon, Faro and Funchal Airports. In the near future it will be installed in the Airports of Porto, Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo.
